About The VINE Project

The VINE (Very Interesting Networking Experience)

The IDEA2007 Congress has now been and gone but for the time being anyway, the ViNE lives on as students and teachers of drama continue to blog their performance making processes. Although it is now past tense, you can read all about what the VINE project was in the section below.

The VINE is a Drama Australia project, initiated by Drama Victoria, involving local and international sharing of performance making processes through web based technology. This project takes place in the lead up to the IDEA congress, Planting IDEAS, Hong Kong, 2007.

The SEED. Using a common starting point or stimulus, groups of drama and theatre students or participants and their teachers or arts workers across all ages (primary/secondary/tertiary), all educational and community settings and from all states and territories of Australia and neighbouring countries are invited to create a performance based on a theme:

Planting human IDEAS - global vision in local knowledge

This is the IDEA* congress theme for 2007 and it is hoped that it will be inviting, challenging and open enough to inspire a broad range of performances that will also reflect what young people in our region (Australasia and SE Asia) are thinking about themselves, their world and their place within it.
*IDEA is the International Association for Drama and Theatre in Education. Every three years an international congress is held by IDEA. The next is in July, 2007 in Hong Kong. See the congress web site.

The VINE project aims to share the rehearsal/creative process and the resulting performance created on the above theme through web based technology – it is the vine that links the performing groups. This will be in the form of a blog (web log), journaling the process of developing the performance. These blogs may also include images and podcasts. All participating groups (and perhaps interested non-participants) are able to view the blogs of other groups and gain insights into the different approaches to creating a performance and the different outcomes. Through the blogs participants from the different groups involved are able to ask questions and to discuss thoughts and reflections on the performance making of other groups and their own experience of the process.

We’d love your drama group/class to be a part of creating the VINE. We are keen to see as many groups as possible engaging with the process so feel free to create a blog on your group’s performance making. Go ahead and create your vineblog or visit some of the others.

Vineblogs has measures in place to avoid the ever increasing spam problem on the web, however, if you do encounter any problems with this or any other content that may need to be removed please let us know.
Good luck and have fun!
